as in Diversity

With tradition at our backs and the possibilities offered by digitization in front of us, we work every day on Deichmann's future.

Our
Vision

As Europe's market leader in shoe retailing, digitization does not halt at us. This makes it all the more important not only to face up to these changes, but also to fully exploit their potential. We consider digital development as an opportunity and have the know-how and the strength to position Deichmann for the future.

For us, the opportunities offered by digitization lie not only in technical innovations and purely digital products, but also in over 4,000 brick and mortar stores in Europe. With an integrated omnichannel approach, we want to leverage these strengths and offer our customers an exciting shopping experience across all platforms and channels - no matter which channel they choose.

Heinrich Deichmann opens a shoemaker’s shop with his wife Julie in the heart of the Ruhr District.

Dr. med. Heinz-Horst Deichmann, son of the founding couple, Heinrich and Julie Deichmann, gives up his full-time career as a doctor and takes over the management of the company.

In 1984, Deichmann takes over the Lerner Shoes chain of stores (now RACK ROOM SHOES) in the USA, making it the first company in Europe to use the well-known Rack Room shelving system.

DEICHMANN is the first shoe retailer to start selling shoes online – initially under the name of eShoes.de and soon afterwards under its own company name.

The store goes digital – in its high street stores, customers are able to make use of additional services such as ship-to-home through kiosks and employee handheld devices.

This is still the headquarters for our group of companies. Deichmann SE is currently active in 27 countries with about 4,000 shops and employs approximately 40,000 people. In our stores and 40 online shops we sell over 178 million pairs of shoes annually.
